...Powerful jet stream winds have lowered down over the Front 
Range mountains and higher foothills in northern Colorado late
tonight. Strongest winds have been observed up along the 
Continental Divide and in the higher foothills in Boulder and 
Larimer Counties. Winds have gusted to as high as 101 mph atop 
Berthoud pass and from 75 to 90 mph along the Peak-to-Peak Highway
in Boulder County in the past couple of hours. These very strong 
and potentially damaging winds are expected to continue in areas 
prone to such winds through Friday morning. Above timberline these
powerful winds are likely to produce whiteout conditions and 
dangerous cold wind chills.

...HIGH WIND WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 AM MST THIS MORNING...

The National Weather Service in Denver has issued a High Wind
Warning, which is in effect until 11 AM MST this morning. 

* TIMING...until 11 AM Friday with the strongest gusts expected
  from 2 AM and 9 AM this morning. 

* WINDS...sustained west winds of 40 to 50 mph with peak gusts
  from 75 to 95 mph roughly at elevations above 8500 feet.  

* IMPACTS...Damage to power lines and buildings such as to roofs
  and sliding are likely these very strong winds. Motorists may
  encounter fierce cross winds which could cause sudden loss of
  the control of their vehicles. Power interruptions and even 
  power outages may occur.  

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A High Wind Warning means a hazardous high wind event is expected
or occurring. Sustained wind speeds of at least 50 mph or gusts 
of 58 mph or more can lead to property damage.

.Gusty winds continue blowing in the north central Colorado
mountains late this morning, but they are not as strong as they
were around sunrise this morning. Strong winds aloft over the
state will become more southwesterly this afternoon, decreasing
the threat of damaging winds.

The National Weather Service in Denver has cancelled the High
Wind Warning. 

Wind gusts up to 50 mph will still be possible through 1 PM MST,
but damaging winds are no longer expected. Motorists driving high
profile vehicles should continue using caution while driving in
the mountains and Front Range foothills.
