Bernalillo County in central New Mexico... * Until 645 PM MDT. * At 514 PM MDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across northeast Albuquerque. Flash flooding is expected to begin shortly. The heaviest rainfall is falling on either side of Academy, east of Interstate 25. Area rain gages have already reported 1 inch of rain in the last 20 minutes. * Some locations that will experience flooding include... Northeastern Albuquerque. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Most flood related deaths occur in automobiles. At 543 PM MDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the northeast heights of Albuquerque. Between 1 and 1.75 inches of rain have already fallen along Academy east of I-25. Greater than curb high water is flowing down Academy between San Mateo and Wyoming. Do not drive into water of unknown depth! The area of heavy rain is move southward with the heaviest rain now over Montgomery. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Arroyos, streams and normally dry rivers can become raging killer currents in a matter of minutes. Water in arroyos can travel many miles and take hours to reach your location from upstream rain areas. Most flood related deaths occur in automobiles.
