...HIGH RIP CURRENT RISK IN EFFECT THROUGH THIS EVENING...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN MELBOURNE HAS ISSUED A HIGH RIP
CURRENT RISK...WHICH IS IN EFFECT THROUGH THIS EVENING.

* TIMING...THE THREAT FOR RIP CURRENTS WILL BE IN PLACE ALL DAY,
HOWEVER, IT WILL BE HIGHEST BETWEEN 930 AM AND 330 PM DUE TO
  TIDAL EFFECTS.

* IMPACTS...A 15 TO 16 SECOND LONG PERIOD EASTERLY SWELL,
GENERATED BY DISTANT MAJOR HURRICANE GASTON IN THE CENTRAL
ATLANTIC, WILL CONTINUE TO PILE UP WATER BEHIND THE SAND BAR
TODAY. THIS WILL RESULT IN NUMEROUS STRONG RIP CURRENTS IN THE

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

RIP CURRENTS ARE POWERFUL CHANNELS OF WATER FLOWING QUICKLY AWAY

SANDBAR AND IN THE VICINITY OF STRUCTURES SUCH AS JETTIES AND
PIERS. HEED THE ADVICE OF LIFEGUARDS...BEACH PATROL FLAGS AND
SIGNS.

SWIM NEAR A LIFEGUARD. IF CAUGHT IN A RIP CURRENT REMAIN CALM.
