* HAZARDS...A STRONG NORTHWARD FLOWING LONGSHORE CURRENT...HEAVY
  BREAKING WAVES AND STRONG RIP CURRENTS NEAR PIERS AND JETTIES.

* POTENTIAL IMPACTS...ANYONE ENTERING THE ROUGH SURF COULD BE
  KNOCKED DOWN BY HEAVY BREAKING WAVES AND PUSHED BY LONGSHORE
  CURRENTS OR RIP CURRENTS INTO DEEPER WATER BEYOND THE SAND BAR.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A BEACH HAZARDS STATEMENT IS ISSUED WHEN THREATS SUCH AS RIP
CURRENTS...LONGSHORE CURRENTS...ROUGH SURF AND OTHER HAZARDS
CREATE LIFE-THREATENING CONDITIONS IN THE SURF ZONE. CAUTION
SHOULD BE USED WHEN IN OR NEAR THE WATER. ONLY ENTER THE SURF NEAR
A LIFEGUARD.

LONGSHORE CURRENTS COMMONLY OCCUR WHEN WAVES APPROACH THE SHORELINE
AT AN ANGLE. THEY CAN BE PARTICULARLY DANGEROUS NEAR A JETTY OR
PIER AND PRODUCE STRONG RIP CURRENTS.
