RIP CURRENTS ARE POWERFUL CHANNELS OF WATER FLOWING QUICKLY AWAY
FROM SHORE...WHICH OCCUR MOST OFTEN AT LOW SPOTS OR BREAKS IN THE
SANDBAR AND IN THE VICINITY OF STRUCTURES SUCH AS JETTIES AND
PIERS. HEED THE ADVICE OF LIFEGUARDS...BEACH PATROL FLAGS AND
SIGNS. REMEMBER TO ALWAYS SWIM NEAR A LIFEGUARD.

IF YOU BECOME CAUGHT IN A RIP CURRENT...NEVER ATTEMPT TO SWIM
DIRECTLY AGAINST IT...AS YOU WILL TIRE QUICKLY. INSTEAD...TREAD
WATER AND THEN SWIM AT AN ANGLE AWAY FROM THE CURRENT. THEN ONCE
OUT OF THE CURRENT...SWIM DIRECTLY BACK TOWARD THE BEACH.
