MESOSCALE DISCUSSION 1237
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
1138 PM CDT MON JUN 30 2014
AREAS AFFECTED...NE TX PANHANDLE...NW OK...SW KS
CONCERNING...SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 377...
VALID 010438Z - 010545Z
THE SEVERE WEATHER THREAT FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 377
CONTINUES.
SUMMARY...THUNDERSTORMS WILL SPREAD SEWD OUT OF WW 377 IN THE NEXT
HOUR. HOWEVER...A LOCAL EXTENSION IN SPACE OR TIME MAY NOT BE
NEEDED SINCE INSTABILITY WEAKENS QUICKLY TO THE SE...WHICH SUGGESTS
THAT THE SEVERE THREAT WILL WANE.
DISCUSSION...THE EARLIER FRONTAL CONVECTION AND SE CO CLUSTER HAVE
NOW MOVED SEWD INTO THE NE TX PANHANDLE AND NW OK...WITH MEASURED
SEVERE GUSTS OF 59 MPH AT GOODWELL...74 MPH AT SLAPOUT...AND 85 MPH
AT BEAVER IN THE OK PANHANDLE IN THE PAST HOUR. HOWEVER...RADAR
SUGGESTS THAT THE STORMS HAVE ALREADY PASSED PEAK INTENSITY...AND A
DRIER LOW-LEVEL AIR MASS IN ADVANCE OF THE STORMS IS LIMITING
BUOYANCY AND SHOULD RESULT IN ADDITIONAL WEAKENING OF THE STORMS AS
THEY MOVE SEWD OUT OF THE WATCH AREA. WHILE ISOLATED SEVERE GUSTS
AND HAIL WILL BE POSSIBLE IN THE SHORT TERM...LOCAL EXTENSIONS OF
THE WATCH IN SPACE/TIME MAY NOT BE NECESSARY...AND THE WATCH WILL
LIKELY BE ALLOWED TO EXPIRE AS SCHEDULED AT 05Z.
