THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN RALEIGH HAS ISSUED A

* FLASH FLOOD WARNING FOR...
  DAVIDSON COUNTY IN CENTRAL NORTH CAROLINA
  RANDOLPH COUNTY IN CENTRAL NORTH CAROLINA

* UNTIL 115 AM EDT

* AT 1016 PM EDT...LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT REPORTED SEVERAL WATER 
RESCUES ONGOING IN THE SILVER VALLEY AND GORDONTOWN AREAS OF 
DAVIDSON COUNTY. NUMEROUS ROADS ARE FLOODED AND CLOSED. THIS IS A 
VERY DANGEROUS FLOODING SITUATION. FLOOD WATERS AT NIGHT ARE 
IMPOSSIBLE TO DETECT. 

ADDITIONAL HEAVY RAIN FALLING OVER SATURATED GROUND IN RANDOLPH AND 
SOUTHERN DAVIDSON COUNTIES WILL CONTINUE TO PRODUCE RAPID RUNOFF AND 
FLOODING. 

RADAR INDICATED NEARLY 9 INCHES OF RAIN HAD FALLEN OVER PORTIONS OF 
THE REGION SINCE EARLY IN THE DAY.

* LOCATIONS THREATENED WITH FLOODING INCLUDE GORDONTOWN... 
THOMASVILLE...LEXINGTON...RANDLEMAN...ASHEBORO AND LINWOOD.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

LIFE THREATENING FLASH FLOODING IS OCCURRING ACROSS THE AREA. DO NOT
ATTEMPT TO TRAVEL UNLESS YOU MUST DO SO TO ESCAPE THE FLOODING OR ARE
UNDER AN EVACUATION ORDER. IF YOU ARE IN A LOW LYING AREA...ALONG A
CREEK OR STREAM...OR IN AN AREA EXPERIENCING FLOODING...TAKE ACTION
NOW TO PROTECT YOUR LIFE. MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND IMMEDIATELY.

BE ESPECIALLY CAUTIOUS AT NIGHT WHEN IT IS HARDER TO RECOGNIZE THE
DANGERS OF FLOODS AND FLASH FLOODS. IF FLASH FLOODING IS OBSERVED ACT
QUICKLY. MOVE UP TO HIGHER GROUND TO ESCAPE FLOOD WATERS. DO NOT STAY
IN AREAS SUBJECT TO FLOODING WHEN WATER BEGINS RISING.
