THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN CLEVELAND HAS ISSUED A

* FLASH FLOOD WARNING FOR GATES MILLS DAM ON THE CHAGRIN RIVER IN... 
CUYAHOGA COUNTY AND LAKE COUNTY.

* UNTIL 100 PM EST

* AT 1007 AM EST...THE FAILURE OF GATES MILLS DAM WAS REPORTED BY 
THE DAM OPERATOR.

* HEAVY RAIN CAUSED A COMPLETE DAM FAILURE AT THE GATES MILLS DAM IN
EASTERN CUYAHOGA COUNTY NEAR THE TOWNS OF MAYFIELD AND GATES MILLS. 
THE WATER FROM THIS DAM WILL FLOW DOWNSTREAM INTO PORTIONS OF 
WILLOUGHBY HILLS...WILLOUGHBY...AND EASTLAKE. THE CHAGRIN RIVER IS 
ALREADY EXPERIENCING MAJOR FLOODING. THIS ADDITIONAL WATER COULD CAUSE 
ADDITIONAL RISES TO THE CURRENT FORECASTED CREST IN WILLOUGHBY. THE 
AMOUNT OF ADDITIONAL RISE IS UNKNOWN AT THIS TIME. RESIDENTS ALONG 
THE CHAGRIN RIVER SHOULD TAKE ACTION NOW IN THE EVENT OF RAPIDLY 
RISING WATER. 

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A FLASH FLOOD WARNING MEANS FLASH FLOODING IS OCCURRING OR IS
IMMINENT. MOST FLOOD RELATED DEATHS OCCUR IN AUTOMOBILES. DO NOT
ATTEMPT TO CROSS WATER COVERED BRIDGES...DIPS...OR LOW WATER
CROSSINGS. NEVER TRY TO CROSS A FLOWING STREAM... EVEN A SMALL ONE...

...THE FLASH FLOOD WARNING FOR THE FAILURE OF THE DAM AT GATES MILLS 
HAS BEEN CANCELLED FOR SOUTHWESTERN LAKE AND NORTHEASTERN CUYAHOGA 
COUNTIES...

THE FLOOD WATERS FROM THE DAM BREAK AT GATES MILLS HAS RECEDED. THIS 
LOW HEAD DAM COMPLETELY FAILED EARLIER THIS MORNING AS A RESULT OF 
MAJOR FLOODING ALONG THE CHAGRIN. THE DAM FAILURE WILL NO LONGER 
IMPACT THE RIVER STAGE ALONG THE CHAGRIN. HOWEVER...MAJOR FLOODING 
IS OCCURING AS A RESULT OF RECENT RAIN AND SNOWMELT...AND RESIDENTS 
ALONG THE RIVER SHOULD CONTINUE TO MONITOR CURRENT WARNINGS.
