AREAS AFFECTED...NRN AND CNTRL ME
CONCERNING...SEVERE POTENTIAL...WATCH POSSIBLE
VALID 251705Z - 251830Z
AN ISOLATED SEVERE THREAT WILL LIKELY DEVELOP ACROSS NRN AND CNTRL
ME AS A LINE OF STRONG THUNDERSTORMS MOVES INTO MAINE FROM THE
NORTH. THE PRIMARY THREAT WOULD BE FOR DAMAGING WIND GUSTS. A WW CAN
NOT BE RULED OUT ACROSS THE REGION LATER THIS AFTERNOON.
THE LATEST WATER VAPOR/RUC IMAGERY SHOWS A WELL-DEFINED VORTICITY
MAX OVER SRN QUEBEC WHERE A LINE OF STRONG THUNDERSTORMS IS ONGOING.
THIS VORTICITY MAX WILL MOVE SSEWD INTO MAINE THIS AFTERNOON WHERE
OBJECTIVE ANALYSIS SHOWS A MODERATELY UNSTABLE AIRMASS WITH SBCAPE
VALUES RANGING FROM 1000 TO 1500 J/KG. INSTABILITY SHOULD CONTINUE
TO INCREASE AS SFC TEMPS WARM THIS AFTERNOON. IN ADDITION...A 40 TO
50 KT LOW TO MID-LEVEL JET EXISTS JUST BEHIND THE LINE IN QUEBEC.
SHORT-TERM MODEL FORECASTS MOVE THIS JET ACROSS MAINE TODAY WHICH
SHOULD HELP DOWNDRAFT EFFICIENCY AND SUPPORT A COLD POOL WITH THE
LINE. AS LOW-LEVEL LAPSE RATES STEEPEN THIS AFTERNOON...A WIND
DAMAGE THREAT SHOULD DEVELOP ACROSS NRN AND CNTRL MAINE. HAIL MAY
ALSO BE POSSIBLE WITH THE MORE INTENSE CORES ESPECIALLY AS THE LINE
INTERACTS WITH THE STRONGER INSTABILITY LATER THIS AFTERNOON.
