THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN ST LOUIS HAS ISSUED A

* FLASH FLOOD WARNING FOR...
  IRON COUNTY IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI...
  REYNOLDS COUNTY IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI...

* UNTIL 1000 PM CDT

* AT 607 PM CDT...THE MISSOURI DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION INDICATES
  THAT SEVERAL ROADS IN SOUTHERN IRON COUNTY HAVE BEEN CLOSED DUE TO 
  HIGH WATER...INCLUDING STATE ROUTE C EAST OF ANNAPOLIS...AND STATE
  ROUTE 5 MILES EAST OF ROUTE 49.  

  ALTHOUGH RAINS OVER THE AREA ARE NOT PARTICULARLY HEAVY AT THIS
  TIME...RADAR INDICATES THUNDERSTORMS WITH TORRENTIAL DOWNPOURS
  OVER NORTHERN ARKANSAS...AND THESE WILL BE MOVING INTO THE AREA
  DURING THE OVERNIGHT HOURS.   THEREFORE...DO NOT TAKE THIS THREAT
  LIGHTLY...LIFE-THREATENING FLASH FLOODING MAY BECOME A VERY REAL
  POSSIBILITY AS THE NIGHT PROGRESSES. 

* SOME LOCATIONS THAT WILL EXPERIENCE FLOODING INCLUDE...IRONTON...
  ANNAPOLIS...ARCADIA...BELLEVIEW...BIXBY...BUNKER...ELLINGTON...
  GARWOOD...GLOVER...OATES...PILOT KNOB...REYNOLDS AND VIBURNUM.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

EXCESSIVE RUNOFF FROM HEAVY RAINFALL WILL CAUSE FLOODING OF SMALL
CREEKS AND STREAMS...COUNTRY ROADS...AS WELL AS FARMLAND ALONG THE
BANKS OF CREEKS AND STREAMS.

IN HILLY TERRAIN THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF LOW WATER CROSSINGS WHICH ARE
POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS IN HEAVY RAIN. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO TRAVEL ACROSS
FLOODED ROADS. FIND ALTERNATE ROUTES. IT ONLY TAKES A FEW INCHES OF 
SWIFTLY FLOWING WATER TO CARRY VEHICLES AWAY.  AND REMEMBER...THE 
DANGER IS EVEN GREATER AT NIGHT...SINCE DARKNESS OFTEN OBSCURES THE 
THE DEPTH OF THE FLOOD WATERS.
