THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN UPTON NY HAS EXTENDED THE

* FLASH FLOOD WARNING FOR...
  UNION COUNTY IN NORTHEAST NEW JERSEY...

* UNTIL 1230 PM EDT...

* AT 1040 AM EDT...WHILE THE RAIN IS TAPERING OFF...FLOODING 
CONTINUES. 

THE FLOOD WATERS WILL GRADUALLY RECEDE OVER THE NEXT TWO HOURS. THE 
LIGHT RAIN WILL END AROUND NOON TIME.

EXCESSIVE RUNOFF FROM THE EARLY HEAVY RAINFALL HAS CAUSED FLOODING 
OF SMALL CREEKS AND STREAMS...URBAN AREAS...HIGHWAYS...STREETS AND 
UNDERPASSES AS WELL AS OTHER DRAINAGE AREAS AND LOW LYING SPOTS.

THE RAHWAY RIVER AT SPRINGFIELD HAS CRESTING JUST ABOVE ITS FLOOD 
STAGE.  AT 1030 AM EDT...THE STAGE WAS REPORTED AT 5.9 FT. THE FLOOD 
STAGE IS 5.5 FT. THE RIVER IS EXPECTED TO FALL BELOW FLOOD STAGE 
EARLY THIS AFTERNOON.
 
DO NOT DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO AREAS WHERE THE WATER COVERS THE
ROADWAY. THE WATER DEPTH MAY BE TOO GREAT TO ALLOW YOUR CAR TO CROSS 
SAFELY. THIS COULD RUIN YOUR CARS ENGINE AND PLACE YOUR LIFE IN 
GREAT DANGER. MOST FLOOD RELATED DEATHS OCCUR IN AUTOMOBILES.
