  BRITAIN...MANCHESTER...HARTFORD...EAST HARTFORD

* UNTIL 830 PM EDT

* AT 626 PM EDT...RADAR AND RAIN GAGES INDICATED TORRENTIAL RAINFALL 
  OCCURRING NEAR AND SOUTH OF THE HARTFORD AREA. THUNDERSTORMS 
  CONTINUED TO CROSS OVER THE HARTFORD AREA...MOVING EAST AT 40 MPH.

* OTHER LOCATIONS IN THE WARNING INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO
  WETHERSFIELD...GLASTONBURY AND BERLIN.

MOST FLASH FLOOD DEATHS OCCUR IN AUTOMOBILES. NEVER ATTEMPT TO CROSS 
BRIDGES OR ROADS WHERE WATER COVERS THE ROADWAY. IT ONLY TAKES A FOOT
OR TWO OF WATER TO WASH MOST CARS AWAY.

FLASH FLOODING OF POOR DRAINAGE AREAS IS LIKELY DUE TO THE TORRENTIAL
RAINFALL. CULVERTS ALONG ROADSIDES MAY BE WASHED OUT. STANDING WATER
ON ROADWAYS AND ESPECIALLY UNDERPASSES MAY RISE TO SEVERAL FEET IN 
DEPTH SUBMERGING VEHICLES.

HARTFORD COUNTY...

AT 718 PM EDT...RADAR INDICATED THAT RAINFALL HAD DIMINISHED TO 
LIGHT TO MODERATE INTENSITY IN THE HARTFORD AREA. LOCAL LAW 
ENFORCEMENT OFFICIALS REPORTED FLASH FLOODING IN THE HARTFORD AREA. 
MANY STREETS HAVE BEEN FLOODED...SOME BUSINESSES AND HOUSEHOLD 
BASEMENTS HAVE BEEN FLOODED AS WELL.
  
EXCESSIVE RUNOFF FROM HEAVY RAINFALL WILL CONTINUE TO PRODUCE 
FLOODING IN URBAN AREAS...HIGHWAYS... STREETS AND UNDERPASSES AS 
WELL AS OTHER DRAINAGE AREAS AND LOW LYING SPOTS.  FLASH FLOODING OF 
SMALL CREEKS AND STREAMS IN THE GREATER HARTFORD AREA MAY ALSO OCCUR 
EARLY THIS EVENING. 

DO NOT DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO AREAS WHERE THE WATER COVERS THE
ROADWAY. THE WATER DEPTH MAY BE TOO GREAT TO ALLOW YOUR CAR TO CROSS
SAFELY. VEHICLES CAUGHT IN RISING WATER SHOULD BE ABANDONED QUICKLY.
MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND.
