THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN ST LOUIS HAS ISSUED A

* FLASH FLOOD WARNING FOR...
  JERSEY COUNTY IN SOUTHWEST ILLINOIS

* UNTIL 1100 PM CDT

* AT 650 PM CDT...WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED A WEST TO
  EAST ORIENTED LINE FROM TROY MISSOURI THROUGH JERSEYVILLE INTO
  SOUTHERN MACOUPIN COUNTY.  THIS LINE IS PRODUCING VERY HEAVY
  RAINFALL OVER GROUND THAT HAS BEEN SATURATED FROM SEVERAL DAYS OF
  RAIN. 

* FLASH FLOODING CAN BE EXPECTED ACROSS THE AREA...AND WILL BE 
  AFFECTING JERSEYVILLE...PERE MARQUETTE STATE PARK...OTTERVILLE AND
  DELHI. 

IF FLASH FLOODING IS OBSERVED OR IMMINENT...MOVE QUICKLY TO HIGHER
GROUND. NEVER DRIVE INTO AN AREA WHERE WATER COVERS THE ROAD.

...A FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR JERSEY COUNTY UNTIL
1100 PM CDT...

BETWEEN 915 AND 930 PM...LAW ENFORCEMENT REPORTED THAT THERE WAS 
STANDING WATER ON MOST ROADS...AND MANY LOW WATER CROSSINGS WERE 
STILL CLOSED.

SINCE THE HEAVIEST RAINS ENDED OVER JERSEY COUNTY BETWEEN BETWEEN 7 
AND 8 PM...THE LINGERING FLOOD WATERS SHOULD BE RECEDING FAIRLY 
QUICKLY OVER THE NEXT FEW HOURS.  UNTIL THEN...BE ESPECIALLY 
CAUTIOUS SINCE NIGHTTIME OFTEN OBSCURES THE DANGERS OF FLOOD 
WATERS.

MOST FLASH FLOOD DEATHS OCCUR IN AUTOMOBILES. AVOID BRIDGES...DIPS...
OR OTHER LOW LYING AREAS...AND NEVER DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO AREAS
WHERE THE WATER COVERS THE ROADWAY. THE WATER DEPTH MAY BE TOO GREAT
TO ALLOW YOUR CAR TO CROSS SAFELY. VEHICLES CAUGHT IN RISING WATER
SHOULD BE ABANDONED QUICKLY. MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND.
