FLASH FLOOD WARNING
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE AUSTIN/SAN ANTONIO TX
422 AM CDT THU SEP 23 2004

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN AUSTIN SAN ANTONIO HAS ISSUED A

* FLASH FLOOD WARNING FOR THE FOLLOWING COUNTIES...
  VAL VERDE

* UNTIL 715 AM CDT

* AT 422 AM CDT...NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED
  HEAVY RAIN FROM SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS OVER VAL VERDE COUNTY
  FROM JUST NORTH OF LAKE AMISTAD TO THE NORTHERN PART OF 
  VAL VERDE COUNTY.  MOVEMENT WAS NORTH AT 25 MPH.

SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS OVER VAL VERDE COUNTY WILL CONTINUE FOR
THE NEXT FEW HOURS.  LOCALLY HEAVY RAINS ARE POSSIBLE...ALONG WITH 
OCCASIONAL LIGHTNING AND WIND GUSTS 20 TO 30 MPH FROM THE STRONGER 
STORMS.  

THE HEAVIEST RAINS WILL BE FROM JUST NORTH OF LAKE AMISTAD TO THE 
NORTHERN PART OF VAL VERDE COUNTY.  RAINFALL AMOUNTS NEAR ONE HALF 
TO TWO INCHES IS EXPECTED.  SOME OF THE SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS 
COULD PRODUCE AN INCH OF RAIN IN AN HOUR.  

HEAVY RAINFALL WILL CAUSE FLOODING OF SMALL CREEKS AND STREAMS...AND 
COUNTRY ROADS.  FLOODING AT LOW WATER CROSSINGS IS LIKELY.  MOTORISTS
ARE ADVISED TO APPROACH LOW WATER CROSSINGS WITH EXTREME CAUTION.

FLASH FLOODING IS OCCURRING OR IS IMMINENT. MOST FLOOD DEATHS OCCUR
IN AUTOMOBILES. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CROSS WATER COVERED AREAS. A LITTLE
OVER A FOOT OF WATER CAN CARRY AWAY MOST CARS AND TRUCKS. TURN AROUND
- DONT DROWN.
