ROCKLAND COUNTY IN SOUTHEAST NEW YORK * UNTIL 800 PM EST * AT 3:30 PM EST...NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED A LARGE AREA OF MODERATE RAINFALL FALLING ACROSS THE AREA...MOVING NORTHEAST AT 20 MPH. AT 3:15 PM...THE MAHWAH RIVER AT SUFFERN WAS AT 5.01 FEET AND RISING. FLOOD STAGE IS 4.0 FEET. THE RIVER IS EXPECTED TO REMAIN ABOVE FLOOD STAGE FOR SEVERAL HOURS. FLASH FLOODING IS EXPECTED ALONG THE MAHWAH RIVER AT LEAST THROUGH THE EVENING HOURS AS LIGHT TO OCCASIONALLY MODERATE RAINFALL WILL CONTINUE. SMALL RIVERS AND STREAMS WILL RECEDE QUICKLY AND RETURN WITHIN THEIR BANKS LATER THIS EVENING. DO NOT DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO AREAS WHERE THE WATER COVERS THE ROADWAY. THE WATER DEPTH MAY BE TOO GREAT TO ALLOW YOUR CAR TO CROSS SAFELY. VEHICLES CAUGHT IN RISING WATER SHOULD BE ABANDONED QUICKLY. MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND. A FLASH FLOOD WARNING MEANS THAT FLOODING IS IMMINENT OR OCCURRING. IF YOU ARE IN THE WARNING AREA MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND IMMEDIATELY.
