THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED A

* FLASH FLOOD WARNING FOR...
  HALIFAX COUNTY IN CENTRAL NORTH CAROLINA

* UNTIL 1000 PM EDT

* AT 853 PM EDT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED VERY
  HEAVY RAIN OVER THE WARNED AREA.

* A BAND OF SLOW MOVING SHOWERS ARE PRODUCING TORRENTIAL RAINFALL
  OVER CENTRAL HALIFAX COUNTY. THE HEAVIEST RAIN WILL FALL NEAR 
  AND JUST EAST OF HIGHWAY 301... FROM HALIFAX SOUTH TO ENFIELD.
  RAINFALL RATES OF ONE AND A HALF TO OVER TWO INCHES AN HOUR
  CAN BE EXPECTED.

DUE TO THE HEAVY RAINS FROM EARLIER IN THE WEEK... THIS HEAVY RAIN 
WILL RUN OFF QUICKLY... LEADING TO FLOODING OF SMALL CREEKS AND 
STREAMS... HIGHWAYS... STREETS AND UNDERPASSES. 

BE ESPECIALLY CAUTIOUS AT NIGHT WHEN IT IS HARDER TO RECOGNIZE THE 
DANGERS OF FLASH FLOODS. IF YOU ENCOUNTER AN AREA WHERE WATER COVERS 
THE ROAD... TURN AROUND AND SEEK AN ALTERNATE ROUTE.
