THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN SPRINGFIELD HAS ISSUED A

* FLASH FLOOD WARNING FOR...
  ST. CLAIR COUNTY IN WEST CENTRAL MISSOURI

* UNTIL 1030 AM CDT

* AT 428 AM CDT...NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED   
  MODERATE RAIN CONTINUING OVER ST. CLAIR COUNTY.  DOPPLER RADAR     
  ESTIMATED THAT 3 TO 5 INCHES OF RAIN HAD FALLEN OVER THE NORTHWEST 
  AND SOUTHEAST PORTIONS OF THE COUNTY SINCE MIDNIGHT.

* ALTHOUGH THE RAIN WAS TAPERING OFF...RUNOFF FROM THE EXCESSIVE 
  RAINFALL TONIGHT WILL CAUSE FLASH FLOODING TO OCCUR. SOME 
  LOCATIONS THAT WILL EXPERIENCE FLASH FLOODING INCLUDE...APPLETON 
  CITY AND LOWRY CITY.

  LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICIALS REPORT THAT WATER WAS COVERING HIGHWAY 
  A BETWEEN APPLETON CITY AND OHIO...AND HIGHWAY 54 BETWEEN COLLINS 
  AND WEAUBLEAU.

EXCESSIVE RUNOFF WILL CAUSE FLASH FLOODING OF SMALL CREEKS AND 
STREAMS...COUNTRY ROADS...AS WELL AS FARMLAND ALONG THE BANKS OF 
CREEKS AND STREAMS.

MOST DEATHS IN FLASH FLOODING OCCUR IN AUTOMOBILES. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO$
CROSS BRIDGES...DIPS...OR LOW WATER CROSSINGS IF WATER COVERS THE
ROADWAY. NEVER TRY TO CROSS A FLOWING STREAM...EVEN A SMALL ONE...ON
FOOT.
