NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE MOBILE AL
640 AM CDT MON SEP 3 2001

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN MOBILE HAS ISSUED A

* FLASH FLOOD WARNING FOR...
  CHOCTAW COUNTY IN SOUTHWEST ALABAMA

* UNTIL 830 AM CDT

* THIS INCLUDES THE CITY OF BUTLER

* AT 640 AM CDT...WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED VERY HEAVY 
  AND PERSISTENT RAIN OVER MUCH OF NORTHERN CHOCTAW COUNTY.  THE     
  THUNDERSTORMS PRODUCING THIS RAINFALL WERE MOVING SLOWLY NORTHEAST 
  AT 10 MPH.  ADDITIONAL THUNDERSTORMS WITH HEAVY RAIN OVER          
  SOUTHEAST MISSISSIPPI ARE EXPECTED TO MOVE ACROSS THE ALREADY RAIN 
  SOAKED AREAS OF NORTHERN CHOCTAW COUNTY.  

EXCESSIVE RUNOFF FROM THESE STORMS WILL LIKELY CAUSE FLASH FLOODING 
OF SMALL CREEKS AND STREAMS AS WELL AS SOME ROADWAYS.  PERSONS WITH 
HOMES ALONG STREAMS AND CREEKS SHOULD BE ON THE OUTLOOK FOR SWIFT 
RISING WATER...ESPECIALLY IN AREAS WHICH ARE PRONE TO FLASH FLOODING.

A FLASH FLOOD WARNING MEANS THAT FLOODING IS OCCURRING OR IS 
IMMINENT.  MOST FLASH FLOOD DEATHS OCCUR IN AUTOMOBILES.  DO NOT 
ATTEMPT TO CROSS BRIDGES...DIPS...OR OTHER LOW SPOTS IF WATER COVERS 
THE ROADWAY.  NEVER TRY TO CROSS A FLOWING STREAM...EVEN A SMALL 
ONE...ON FOOT.  TO ESCAPE RISING WATER MOVE UP TO HIGHER GROUND.
