THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN ST LOUIS HAS ISSUED A

* FLASH FLOOD WARNING FOR...
  GREENE COUNTY IN SOUTHWEST ILLINOIS
  MACOUPIN COUNTY IN SOUTHWEST ILLINOIS

* UNTIL 630 AM CDT

* AT 329 AM CDT...WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED   
THUNDERSTORMS PRODUCING VERY HEAVY RAIN IN AND AROUND GREENE COUNTY 
AND NORTHWESTERN MACOUPIN COUNTIES. AT 315 AM EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT 
OFFICIALS REPORT THAT ROUTE 4 BETWEEN VIRDON AND GIRARD HAS WATER 
OVER THE ROAD. THERE IS 3 TO 4 FEET OF WATER IN THE WHISPERING PINES 
TRAILER COURT IN NORTH VIRDON. SUGAR CREEK AT 9 MILE LANE 2 MILES 
WEST OF VIRDON IS NEAR BANK FULL.

* FLASH FLOODING CAN BE EXPECTED ACROSS THE AREA...AND WILL BE   
AFFECTING THE TOWNS OF WHITE HALL...CARROLLTON...VIRDON AND GIRARD.
 

IF FLASH FLOODING IS OBSERVED OR IMMINENT...MOVE QUICKLY TO HIGHER
GROUND. NEVER DRIVE INTO AN AREA WHERE WATER COVERS THE ROAD.

MOST DEATHS IN FLASH FLOODING OCCUR IN AUTOMOBILES DO NOT ATTEMPT TO
CROSS BRIDGES...DIPS...OR LOW WATER CROSSINGS IF WATER COVERS THE
ROADWAY. DO NOT DRIVE AROUND BARRICADES IF YOUR VEHICLE STALLS...
