FLASH FLOOD WARNING
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE BUFFALO NY
1220 AM EDT TUE SEP 25 2001

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN BUFFALO HAS ISSUED A

* FLOOD WARNING FOR...
  LEWIS COUNTY IN CENTRAL NEW YORK

* UNTIL 600 AM EDT

* AT 1215 AM EDT...WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR CONTINUED TO        
  INDICATE HEAVY RAIN ACROSS MOST OF LEWIS COUNTY. SPOTTER REPORTS   
  AS OF 11 PM INDICATED THAT BETWEEN 2 AND 3 INCHES OF RAIN HAD      
  FALLEN OVER MOST OF THE COUNTY...WITH UP TO 3.5 INCHES OVER THE    
  BLACK RIVER VALLEY.

MODERATE TO HEAVY RAIN WILL CONTINUE TO FALL ACROSS THE COUNTY 
THROUGH THE PREDAWN HOURS...WITH AN ADDITIONAL ONE TO TWO INCHES 
POSSIBLE. CONDITIONS HAD BEEN VERY DRY BEFORE THIS EVENT...BUT THE 
ADDITIONAL RAINS WILL BEGIN TO CAUSE FLOODING IN LOW LYING AREAS. 
SMALLER CREEKS MAY OVERFLOW THEIR BANKS.

REMEMBER...A FLASH FLOOD WARNING MEANS THAT FLOODING IS IMMINENT OR 
OCCURRING. IF YOU ARE IN THE WARNING AREA MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND 
IMMEDIATELY. RESIDENTS LIVING ALONG STREAMS AND CREEKS SHOULD TAKE 
IMMEDIATE PRECAUTIONS TO PROTECT LIFE AND PROPERTY. DO NOT ATTEMPT 
TO CROSS SWIFTLY FLOWING WATERS OR WATERS OF UNKNOWN DEPTH BY FOOT 
OR BY AUTOMOBILE. IF YOUR VEHICLE STALLS, ABANDON IT IMMEDIATELY AND 
SEEK HIGHER GROUND.
