* FLASH FLOOD WARNING FOR...
  SOUTHERN CHEROKEE COUNTY IN SOUTHEAST KANSAS

* UNTIL 1100 PM CDT

* AT 740 PM CDT...NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED   
THUNDERSTORMS WITH VERY HEAVY RAINFALL OVER SOUTHERN CHEROKEE COUNTY 
BETWEEN MELROSE...AND BAXTER SPRINGS...MOVING NORTHEAST AT 25 MPH. 
DOPPLER RADAR ESTIMATED HOURLY RAINFALL RATES NEAR ONE INCH WITH 
THESE STORMS. 

* THESE THUNDERSTORMS ARE PRODUCING TORRENTIAL RAINFALL IN THE 
WARNED AREA. STREAMS REMAIN NEAR BANKFULL FROM THE HEAVY RAIN THAT 
FELL EARLIER TODAY. RUNOFF FROM THIS ADDITIONAL HEAVY RAINFALL WILL 
CAUSE FLASH FLOODING TO OCCUR. SOME LOCATIONS THAT WILL EXPERIENCE 
FLASH FLOODING INCLUDE THE...BAXTER SPRINGS...GALENA AND TREECE 
AREAS.

MOST DEATHS IN FLASH FLOODING OCCUR IN AUTOMOBILES. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO
CROSS BRIDGES...DIPS...OR LOW WATER CROSSINGS IF WATER COVERS THE
ROADWAY. NEVER TRY TO CROSS A FLOWING STREAM...EVEN A SMALL ONE...ON
FOOT.

A FLASH FLOOD WARNING MEANS THAT FLOODING IS IMMINENT OR OCCURRING.
