THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN GREENVILLE-SPARTANBURG HAS ISSUED A

* FLASH FLOOD WARNING FOR...
  GASTON COUNTY IN THE PIEDMONT OF NORTH CAROLINA

* UNTIL 400 PM EDT

* AT 2 PM EDT...WEATHER SERVICE RADAR SHOWED VERY HEAVY RAINFALL IN 
TWO PLACES IN THE COUNTY...OVER GASTONIA...AND JUST SOUTH OF 
CHERRYVILLE.  RADAR HAS ESTIMATED THAT MORE THAN 2 INCHES FELL IN 
LESS THAN AN HOUR...AND THE COUNTY COMMUNICATIONS REPORTED THAT AUTO 
ACCIDENTS WERE ONGOING BECAUSE OF THE HEAVY RAIN.

* THE NEARLY STATIONARY STORMS COULD PRODUCE ANOTHER 1 TO 2 INCHES 
OF RAINFALL...WHICH WOULD LEAD TO A SEVERE URBAN FLASH FLOOD.  THERE 
ARE NUMEROUS FLOOD PRONE AREAS IN AND AROUND GASTONIA.

EXCESSIVE RUNOFF FROM THIS STORM WILL CAUSE FLASH FLOODING OF SMALL
CREEKS AND STREAMS...URBAN AREAS...HIGHWAYS...STREETS AND UNDERPASSES
AS WELL AS OTHER DRAINAGE AREAS AND LOW LYING SPOTS.
