THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN THE QUAD CITIES HAS ISSUED A

* FLASH FLOOD WARNING FOR...
  SOUTHWEST WHITESIDE COUNTY IN NORTHWEST ILLINOIS

* UNTIL 415 AM CDT

* AT 1015 PM CDT...LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT REPORTED A LEVEE FAILURE HAS
  OCCURED ALONG THE ROCK RIVER NEAR ERIE. THE AREAS IN THE GREATEST
  DANGER ARE IN THE AREAS SURROUNDING ERIE TOWARD HILLSDALE.

* A 100 FOOT SECTION OF THE LEVEE ON THE WEST SIDE OF THE RIVER HAS
  GIVEN WAY...SENDING LARGE QUANTITIES OF WATER RAPIDLY DOWNSTREAM.
  THIS WILL RESULT IN FLOODING OF THE ROCK RIVER FLOODPLAIN FROM
  ERIE TO HILLSDALE.

LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICIALS ARE CURRENTLY EVACUATING AREAS ON THE WEST
SIDE OF THE RIVER...AND URGING ALL RESIDENTS TO SEEK HIGHER GROUND
IMMEDIATELY.

BE ESPECIALLY CAUTIOUS AT NIGHT WHEN IT IS HARDER TO RECOGNIZE THE
DANGERS OF FLOODS AND FLASH FLOODS. IF FLASH FLOODING IS OBSERVED ACT
QUICKLY. MOVE UP TO HIGHER GROUND TO ESCAPE FLOOD WATERS. DO NOT STAY
IN AREAS SUBJECT TO FLOODING WHEN WATER BEGINS RISING.
