...FLOOD WARNING HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR CHIPPEWA COUNTY UNTIL 800 PM EDT...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED A FLOOD WARNING FOR CHIPPEWA
COUNTY IN EASTERN UPPER MICHIGAN UNTIL 800 PM EDT THIS EVENING.

DOPPLER RADAR AND SURFACE REPORTS HAVE INDICATED PERSISTENT MODERATE TO
HEAVY RAINFALL ACROSS EASTERN UPPER MICHIGAN THIS MORNING AND AFTERNOON.
ANYWHERE FROM TWO TO FIVE INCHES OF RAIN HAVE BEEN REPORTED OVER THE
EASTERN PORTIONS OF CHIPPEWA COUNTY THROUGH THE AFTERNOON. THE HIGHEST
REPORTS HAVE BEEN GENERALLY FROM AROUND RUDYARD AND EASTWARD TO THE ST
MARYS RIVER...INCLUDING SUGAR ISLAND.
  
THIS AFTERNOON...THE CHIPPEWA COUNTY ROAD COMMISSION REPORTED THAT
SEVERAL ROADS ALONG THE ST. MARYS RIVER AND ON SUGAR ISLAND WERE UNDER
WATER. SPECIFICALLY...SCENIC DRIVE NEAR SAULT STE MARIE WAS UNDER FOUR
INCHES OF WATER WITH SOME ROADS ON SUGAR ISLAND UNDER AS MUCH AS TEN
INCHES OF WATER.

RAINFALL IS EXPECTED TO DIMINISH ACROSS CHIPPEWA COUNTY AFTER 700 PM.

MOTORISTS SHOULD NOT ATTEMPT TO CROSS FLOODED ROADWAYS. IF YOUR
VEHICLE GETS CAUGHT IN RISING WATER...ABANDON IT QUICKLY AND SEEK
HIGHER GROUND.
