748 PM CDT SAT MAY 9 1998

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN BIRMINGHAM HAS ISSUED A

* TORNADO WARNING FOR...
  SUMTER COUNTY... IN WEST CENTRAL ALABAMA

* UNTIL 905 PM CDT

* AT 745 PM CDT...TWO STORMS WERE DETECTED BY NATIONAL WEATHER
SERVICE DOPPLER BOTH OF WHICH MAY CONTAIN TORNADOES.  ONE STORM WAS
LOCATED JUST WEST OF THE STATE LINE ABOUT 5 MILES WEST OF GEIGER.
ANOTHER STORM WAS LOCATED ABOUT 20 MILES WEST OF THE STATE LINE AND
WILL BE AFFECTING THE SOUTHERN PORTION OF THE COUNTY. THIS STORM WILL
AFFECT THE CUBA AND YORK AREAS. THESE STORMS WERE MOVING NORTHEAST AT
45 MILES AN HOUR.
