000 TTAA00 KNYC 092205 FFWNYC CTC001-100000- BULLETIN - EAS ACTIVATION REQUESTED FLASH FLOOD WARNING NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NEW YORK NY 603 PM EDT WED JUL 9 1997 THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN NEW YORK HAS ISSUED A FLASH FLOOD WARNING EFFECTIVE UNTIL 800 PM EDT FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING LOCATION... IN SOUTHWEST CONNECTICUT ...NORTHERN FAIRFIELD COUNTY AT 600 PM EDT...NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE RADAR INDICATED AN AREA OF THUNDERSTORMS MOVING ACROSS NORTHERN PORTIONS OF THE COUNTY. THESE THUNDERSTORMS ARE MOVING OVER AREAS THAT RECEIVED BETWEEN 2 AND 3 INCHES OF RAIN EARLIER IN THE AFTERNOON. BE ON THE ALERT FOR FLOODING ALONG STREAMS AND RIVERS...AS WELL AS LOW LYING AREAS. MOVEMENT OF THE STORMS WAS EAST AT 20 TO 25 MILES AN HOUR. MOST DEATHS IN FLASH FLOODING OCCUR IN AUTOMOBILES. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CROSS BRIDGES...DIPS...OR LOW SPOTS IF WATER COVERS THE ROADWAY.
