000 TTAA00 KSAT 160425 FFWSAT TXC285-160630- BULLETIN - EAS ACTIVATION REQUESTED FLASH FLOOD WARNING NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE AUSTIN/SAN ANTONIO TX 1124 PM CDT THU MAY 15 1997 THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN AUSTIN/SAN ANTONIO HAS ISSUED A FLASH FLOOD WARNING EFFECTIVE UNTIL 130 AM CDT FOR PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING LOCATION... IN SOUTH CENTRAL TEXAS ...LAVACA COUNTY AT 11 20 PM DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED AN AREA OF VERY HEAVY THUNDERSTORMS WITH RAINFALL RATES OF 2 TO 3 INCHES PER HOUR MOVING SLOWLY SOUTHEASTWARD ACROSS WESTERN LAVACA COUNTY. THESE INTENSE STORMS WILL RESULT IN RAPID RUNOFF AND RESULTANT FLOODING OF LOW LYING OR FLOOD PRONE AREAS AS THEY MOVE ACROSS LAVACA COUNTY DURING THE NEXT HOUR OR SO. BE ESPECIALLY CAUTIOUS AT NIGHT WHEN IT IS HARDER TO RECOGNIZE THE DANGERS OF FLOODS AND FLASH FLOODS. IF FLASH FLOODING IS OBSERVED ACT QUICKLY. MOVE UP TO HIGHER GROUND TO ESCAPE FLOOD WATERS. DO NOT STAY IN AREAS SUBJECT TO FLOODING WHEN WATER BEGINS RISING. AVOID ALREADY FLOODED AREAS. TRAVELERS SHOULD NOT ATTEMPT TO CROSS FLOODED ROADS. IF YOUR VEHICLE STALLS...LEAVE IT AND MOVE IMMEDIATELY TO HIGHER GROUND IF YOU CAN DO SO SAFELY. A FLASH FLOOD WARNING MEANS THAT FLOODING IS OCCURRING OR IMMINENT.
