917 WUUS1 KCAE 230024 RRA SVRCAE GAC245-230100- BULLETIN - IMMEDIATE BROADCAST REQUESTED SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE COLUMBIA SC 825 PM EDT TUE APR 22 1997 THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN COLUMBIA HAS ISSUED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING EFFECTIVE UNTIL 900 PM EDT FOR PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING LOCATION... IN GEORGIA ...NORTHERN RICHMOND COUNTY AT 820 PM NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE RADAR INDICATED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM IN SOUTH-CENTRAL COLUMBIA COUNTY. MOVEMENT WAS EAST-NORTHEAST AT 35 MPH AND WILL MOVE THROUGH NORTHERN RICHMOND COUNTY. THIS STORM WAS PRODUCED THREE-QUARTER INCH HAIL. SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS PRODUCE DAMAGING WIND IN EXCESS OF 55 MPH...DESTRUCTIVE HAIL...DEADLY LIGHTNING...AND VERY HEAVY RAIN. THESE WINDS BLOW DOWN TREES...POWER LINES...AND SEVERELY DAMAGE MOBILE HOMES. FOR YOUR PROTECTION MOVE TO AN INTERIOR ROOM ON THE LOWEST FLOOR. DONT DRIVE INTO AREAS WHERE WATER COVERS THE ROAD. A TORNADO WATCH IS ALSO IN EFFECT FOR THE WARNED AREA. REMEMBER SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS CAN AND OCCASIONALLY DO PRODUCE TORNADOES WITH LITTLE OR NO ADVANCE WARNING. REMAIN CALM BUT BE ALERT TO RAPIDLY CHANGING WEATHER CONDITIONS.
