NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE ALBANY NY
755 AM EST FRI FEB 28 1997

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN ALBANY NY  HAS ISSUED A
FLOOD WARNING EFFECTIVE UNTIL NOON EST TODAY
FOR THE EAST CANADA CREEK IN THE FOLLOWING COUNTIES...

   ...HERKIMER COUNTY...FULTON COUNTY

...AN ICE JAM WAS REPORTED BLOCKING THE RIVER CHANNEL AT THE ROUTE 29
BRIDGE IN THE VILLAGE OF DOLGEVILLE ALONG THE HERKIMER FULTON COUNTY
LINE.   BEHIND THE JAM WATER WAS BACKING UP INTO CELLARS OF
NEARBY BUILDINGS.

HOWEVER THE BIGGEST DANGER OF FLOODING WOULD BE IF THE JAM WERE TO
SUDDENLY BREAK.   JUST BELOW THE JAM THE DANIEL GREENE COMPLEX IS
RIGHT ALONGSIDE THE RIVER.   THERE ARE NUMEROUS OTHER BUILDINGS
VERY CLOSE TO THE RIVER IN THIS REGION AS WELL.

LOCAL OFFICIALS ARE KEEPING WATCH ON THE SITUATION.

IF YOUR HOME OR BUSINESS IS ALONG THE EAST CANADA CREEK IN THE
VICINITY OF DOLGEVILLE BE PREPARED FOR A QUICK RELEASE OF WATER
AND ICE SHOULD THIS JAM BREAK.

A FEW MILES BELOW DOLGEVILLE THE EAST CANADA CREEK ENTERS THE
POND BEHIND THE INGHAMS HYDRO PLANT AND LITTLE OR NO FLOODING
IS EXPECTED FROM THERE SOUTH TO THE MOHAWK RIVER.

DO NOTx ATTEMPT TO TOUCH ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT WHILE STANDING IN
WATER...HAVE POWER COMPANY REPRESENTATIVES SHUT OFF POWER TO
FLOODED BUILDINGS.   DON/T DRIVE OVER FLOODED ROADS OR BRIDGES
OR WALK THROUGH FLOWING WATER.
