000 TTAA00 KNYC 131411 FFWNYC NJC003-013-031-039-NYC071-087-119-140200- BULLETIN - EAS ACTIVATION REQUESTED FLOOD WARNING NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NEW YORK NY 1005 AM EDT SAT JUL 13 1996 THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN NEW YORK HAS ISSUED A FLOOD WARNING EFFECTIVE UNTIL 1000 PM EDT FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING LOCATIONS... IN NORTHEAST NEW JERSEY ...BERGEN COUNTY...ESSEX COUNTY...PASSAIC COUNTY...UNION COUNTY IN SOUTHEAST NEW YORK ...ORANGE COUNTY...ROCKLAND COUNTY...WESTCHESTER COUNTY HEAVY RAINS FROM TROPICAL STORM BERTHA ARE CAUSING MANY SMALL RIVERS AND STREAMS IN NORTHERN NEW JERSEY AND THE LOWER HUDSON RIVER VALLEY TO APPROACH BANKFULL. MINOR FLOODING IS OCCURRING IN WESTCHESTER COUNTY ALONG THE SAWMILL RIVER AND IN BERGEN COUNTY ALONG HOHOKUS BROOK. RAINFALL TOTALS OVER THE WARNING AREA AS OF 10 AM ARE GENERALLY 2 TO 3 INCHES...WITH THE HIGHEST AMOUNTS RECORDED AT CHARLOTTEBURG NJ (3.40") AND WEST MILFORD NJ (3.29"). THE WARNING AREA COULD RECEIVE AN ADDITIONAL 1 TO 3 INCHES WITH EMBEDDED HIGHER AMOUNTS THROUGHOUT THE REMAINDER OF THE DAY. THE MAHWAH RIVER AT SUFFERN NY WILL EXCEED ITS FLOOD STAGE OF 4 FEET BY 11 AM. THE RAHWAY RIVER AT SPRINGFIELD NJ IS APPROACH BANKFULL. THE LARGER RIVERS...THE SADDLE RIVER AND THE RAMAPO RIVER IN NORTHERN NEW JERSEY ARE RISING RAPIDILY. DO NOT DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO AREAS WHERE THE WATER COVERS THE ROADWAY. THE WATER DEPTH MAY BE TOO GREAT TO ALLOW YOUR CAR TO CROSSd SAFELY. VEHICLES CAUGHT IN RISING WATER SHOULD BE ABANDONED QUICKLY. MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND. PERSONS LIVING ALONG RIVERS AND STREAMS IN THE EFFECTED WARNING AREA SHOULD REMAIN ON THE ALERT FOR RISING WATERS. MCKILLOP
