THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN TAUNTON HAS ISSUED A
FLOOD WARNING EFFECTIVE UNTIL 1045 PM EST
FOR PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING LOCATIONS...
 
IN WEST MASSACHUSETTS
 
   ...WESTERN HAMPDEN COUNTY...WESTERN HAMPSHIRE COUNTY
 
AT 530 PM...WEATHER RADAR INDICATED YET ANOTHER AREA OF VERY HEAVY RAIN
MOVING INTO SOUTHERN HAMPDEN COUNTY. THIS AREA WILL HEAD NORTH OVER THE
WESTERN PARTS OF HAMPDEN AND HAMPSHIRE COUNTY.  THE HEAVY RAINS COMBINED
WITH A RAPIDLY MELTING SNOWPACK WILL LIKELY BRING SOME SMALL STREAMS
OVER THEIR BANKS TONIGHT.
 
AT 530 PM...THE WEST BRANCH OF THE WESTFIELD RIVER WAS AT 8.1 FEET...AND
MINOR FLOODING MAY BEGIN AS THE RIVER RISES ABOVE 9 FEET THIS EVENING.
 
AT THE VERY LEAST...CONSIDERABLE STREET FLOODING IS LIKELY AND SOME
ROADS MAY BECOME IMPASSABLE UNTIL THE RAIN AND RUNOFF DIMINISHES.
 
BE ESPECIALLY CAUTIOUS AT NIGHT WHEN IT IS HARDER TO RECOGNIZE
THE DANGERS OF FLOODS.  IF FLOODING IS OBSERVED...ACT QUICKLY.
MOVE UP TO ESCAPE FLOOD WATERS.  DO NOT STAY IN AREAS SUBJECT TO
FLOODING WHEN WATER BEGINS RISING.
 
DO NOT DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO AREAS WHERE THE WATER COVERS THE
ROADWAY.  THE WATER DEPTH MAY BE TOO GREAT TO ALLOW YOUR CAR TO
CROSS SAFELY.  VEHICLES CAUGHT IN RISING WATER SHOULD BE
ABANDONED QUICKLY.  MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND.
