000 TTAA00 KAPN 142153 TORAPN MIC031-137-142300- BULLETIN - EAS ACTIVATION REQUESTED TORNADO WARNING NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE GAYLORD MI 553 PM EDT WED AUG 14 1996 THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN GAYLORD HAS ISSUED A TORNADO WARNING EFFECTIVE UNTIL 700 PM EDT FOR PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING LOCATIONSS... IN MICHIGAN ...CHEBOYGAN COUNTY...OTSEGO COUNTY AND THE ADJACENT COASTAL WATERS AT 550 PM EDT...RADAR INDICATED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM POSSIBLY PRODUCING A TORNADO NEAR WOLVERINE IN SOUTHWEST CHEBOYGAN COUNTY. STRONG STORMS WERE BUILDING SOUTH INTO OTSEGO COUNTY AS WELL. THE STORMS WERE MOVING NORTHEAST AT 20 MPH AND WILL AFFECT INDIAN RIVER AND AFTON BY 615 PM EDT AND MULLET LAKE BY 645 PM EDT. ~THESE STORMS WILL AFFECT WESTERN OTSEGO COUNTY INCLUDING PIGEON RIVER THROUGH 630 PM EDT. IF YOU ARE IN THE PATH OF A TORNADO...THE SAFEST PLACE IS THE BASEMENT. GET UNDER A PIECE OF STURDY FURNITURE. KOPSKY/JAH
