THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN DODGE CITY HAS ISSUED A
FLASH FLOOD WARNING  EFFECTIVE UNTIL 1115 PM CDT
FOR PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING LOCATION...
 
IN SOUTHWEST KANSAS
 
   ...FINNEY COUNTY
 
AT 817 PM CDT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED
NUMEROUS THUNDERSTORMS IN AND AROUND GARDEN CITY. THESE STORMS
WERE MOVING EAST-SOUTHEAST AT ONLY 5 TO 10 MILES AN HOUR AND
WILL CONTINUE OVER FINNEY COUNTY FOR ABOUT THE NEXT TWO HOURS.
 
AT 815 PM CDT 3 INCHES OF RAIN IN 30 MINUTES WAS REPORTED AT
HOLCOMB.  IN ADDITION...ALL COUNTY ROADS ARE CLOSED DUE TO
HIGH WATER NORTH OF U.S. HIGHWAY 50 AND TO THE WEST OF U.S.
HIGHWAY 83 IN FINNEY COUNTY.
 
MOST FLOODING DEATHS OCCUR IN AUTOMOBILES. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO
CROSS BRIDGES... DIPS... OR LOW SPOTS IF WATER COVERS THE
ROADWAY.  NEVER TRY TO CROSS A FLOWING STREAM...EVEN A SMALL
ONE...ON FOOT.
 
DO NOT DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE ACROSS WATER-COVERED ROADWAYS. THE
WATER DEPTH AND CURRENT MAY BE TOO GREAT TO ALLOW YOUR CAR TO
CROSS SAFELY.  VEHICLES CAUGHT IN RISING WATER SHOULD BE
ABANDONED QUICKLY.
 
BE ESPECIALLY CAUTIOUS AT NIGHT WHEN IT IS HARDER TO RECOGNIZE
THE DANGERS OF FLOODS AND FLASH FLOODS.  IF FLASH FLOODING IS
OBSERVED...ACT QUICKLY. DO NOT STAY IN AREAS SUBJECT TO FLOODING
WHEN WATER BEGINS TO RISE.
