THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN FORT SMITH HAS ISSUED A
FLASH FLOOD WARNING EFFECTIVE UNTIL  315 AM CDT
FOR PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING LOCATIONS...
 
IN WEST ARKANSAS
 
   ...CRAWFORD COUNTY...SCOTT COUNTY...SEBASTIAN COUNTY
 
 
IN NORTHEAST OKLAHOMA
 
   ...SEQUOYAH COUNTY
 
HEAVY RAINS HAVE CONTINUED OVER EASTERN OKLAHOMA AND WEST CENTRAL
ARKANSAS TONIGHT. RAINFALL AMOUNTS IN EXCESS OF 3 INCHES HAVE OCCURRED
OVER THE AREA DURING THE PAST 6 HOURS. SEVERAL ROADS ARE NOW UNDER
WATER IN CRAWFORD SEBASTIAN AND SCOTT COUNTIES IN ARKANSAS AND
SEQUOYAH COUNTY IN OKLAHOMA...AND MOST CREEKS AND RIVERS ARE BANKFULL
AND OVER..ADDITIONAL HEAVY RAINS ARE LIKELY FOR THE NEXT FEW HOURS.
THIS FLOOD SITUATION WILL BECOME WORSE. RESIDENTS IN THE WARNED
COUNTIES SHOULD MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND IF THEY LIVE IN A FLOOD
PRONE AREA. MOTORISTS SHOULD NOT DRIVE INTO WATER COVERED ROADWAYS.
 
 
 
 
 
 
BE ESPECIALLY CAUTIOUS AT NIGHT WHEN IT IS HARDER TO RECOGNIZE
THE DANGERS OF FLOODS AND FLASH FLOODS.  IF FLASH FLOODING IS
OBSERVED...ACT QUICKLY.  MOVE UP TO ESCAPE FLOOD WATERS.  DO
NOT STAY IN AREAS SUBJECT TO FLOODING WHEN WATER BEGINS RISING.
 
MOST DEATHS IN FLASH FLOODING OCCUR IN AUTOMOBILES.  DO NOT
ATTEMPT TO CROSS BRIDGES...DIPS...OR LOW SPOTS IF WATER COVERS
THE ROADWAY. F NEVER TRY TO CROSS A FLOWING STREAM...EVEN A
SMALL ONE...ON FOOT.
