THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN HUNTINGTON HAS ISSUED A
SMALL STREAM AND URBAN FLOOD WARNING EFFECTIVE UNTIL  615 PM EST
FOR PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING COUNTY...
 
IN EAST KENTUCKY
          ...JOHNSON
 
AT 310PM EST THIS AFTERNOON THE JOHNSON COUNTY KENTUCKY RESCUE SQUAD
REPORTED THAT SEVERAL STREAMS IN AND SOUTHWEST OF PAINTSVILLE WERE
OVER THEIR BANKS. RAINFALL TOTALS OF 1 TO 2 INCHES ACROSS JOHNSON
COUNTY ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THESE CREEKS OVERFLOWING AND MORE RAIN IS
EXPECTED THE NEXT SEVERAL HOURS.
 
RESCUE OPERATIONS WERE ON GOING JUST SOUTHWEST OF PAINTSVILLE TO HELP
PEOPLE EVACUATE THE LOWLYING AREAS AS THE STREAMS CONTINUED TO RISE
THIS AFTERNOON. FURTHER RAINS WILL ONLY ADD TO THIS SITUATION AND A
FLASH FLOOD WARNING IS POSTED UNTIL 6PM.
 
A FLASH FLOOD WARNING MEANS THAT FLOODING IS OCCURRING OR IS
IMMINENT.  MOST FLASH FLOOD DEATHS OCCUR IN AUTOMOBILES.  DO NOT
ATTEMPT TO CROSS BRIDGES...DIPS...OR LOW SPOTS IF WATER COVERS
THE ROADWAY.  NEVER TRY TO CROSS A FLOWING STREAM...EVEN A SMALL
ONE...ON FOOT.  TO ESCAPE RISING WATER MOVE UP TO HIGHER GROUND.
