FLASH FLOOD WARNING
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DEL RIO TX
845 AM CDT MON SEP 17 1990

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED A FLASH FLOOD WARNING
EFFECTIVE UNTIL 100 PM FOR PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING COUNTY IN

SOUTHCENTRAL TEXAS...VAL VERDE

AT 820 AM CDT RUNOFF FROM HEAVY RAINFALL THAT HAD OCCURRED IN SUTTON
COUNTY DURING THE PAST 36 HOURS WAS BEGINNING TO ENTER NORTHERN VAL
VERDE COUNTY AT THE VAL VERDE SUTTON COUNTY LINE.  OVER 7.59 INCHES OF
RAIN FELL IN THE SONORA AREA AND THIS WILL CAUSE THE DEVILS RIVER TO
RISE GRADUALLY IN THE 5 TO 10 FOOT RANGE ACROSS HIGHWAY 189.  HIGHWAY
189 HAS BEEN CLOSED TO TRAFFIC. HIGHWAY 163 BETWEEN JUNO AND COMSTOCK
WILL BE BE CLOSED LATER AS THE WATERS REACH FURTHER SOUTH INTO VAL
VERDE COUNTY. 

SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WITH HEAVY RAINFALL CONTINUE IN THE SONORA
AREA IN THE DEVILS RIVER WATERSHED.

MOTORISTS SHOULD AVOID TRAVELING IN  NORTHERN VAL VERDE COUNTY THIS
MORNING.

NO PRECIPITATION WAS OCCURRING WITHIN VAL VERDE COUNTY...HOWEVER
RAINFALL IS LIKELY TODAY...SOME HEAVY RAIN IS POSSIBLE AND WILL ADD TO
THE FLOODING PROBLEMS OF THE DEVILS RIVER.
