THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN DODGE CITY HAS ISSUED A
FLASH FLOOD WARNING EFFECTIVE UNTIL 1100 AM CDT
FOR PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING COUNTY...
 
IN SOUTH CENTRAL KANSAS
          ...CENTRAL PAWNEE
 
AT 500 AM CDT THIS WEDNESDAY MORNING A MASSIVE SEVERE THUNDERSTORM
COVERED THE WESTERN PART OF PAWNEE COUNTY...ABOUT 40 MILES NORTHEAST
OF DODGE CITY. THE STORM HAD MOVED VERY LITTLE IN THE LAST HALF AN
HOUR AND WAS SITTING DIRECTLY OVER THE CONFLUENCE OF BUCKNER CREEK AND
THE PAWNEE RIVER. THIS STORM WAS POURING A LOT OF WATER INTO THE
PAWNEE AND FLOODING DOWNSTREAM DURING THE DAY IS LIKELY ESPECIALLY IN
THE COMMUNITIES OF ROZEL...SANFORD AND ON EAST TO WHERE THE PAWNEE
JOINS THE ARKANSAS AT LARNED.
 
 
MOST FLOODING DEATHS OCCUR IN AUTOMOBILES. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO
CROSS BRIDGES... DIPS... OR LOW bSPOTS IF WATER COVERS THE
ROADWAY.  NEVER TRY TO CROSS A FLOWING STREAM...EVEN A SMALL
ONE...ON FOOT.
