FLASH FLOOD WARNING EFFECTIVE UNTIL  500 PM EDT
FOR PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING COUNTIES...
 
IN NORTHWEST GEORGIA
          ...DEKALB...NORTHERN FULTON
 
VERY HEAVY THUNDERSTORMS HAVE DUMPED BETWEEN 2 AND 3 INCHES OF RAIN IN
PARTS OF DOWNTOWN ATLANTA AND DEKALB COUNTY. 2.5 INCHES OF RAIN WAS
REPORTED AT CHANNEL 11 STUDIOS IN ATLANTA AND 3.1 INCHES OF RAIN WAS
REPORTED AT CHANNEL 5 STUDIOS IN DEKALB COUNTY... BOTH IN LESS THAN 2
HOURS.
 
PEACHTREE CREEK HAS RISEN MORE THAN 11 FEET IN THE LAST TWO HOURS. AT
3 PM EDT... THE STAGE ON PEACHTREE CREEK AT NORTHSIDE DRIVE WAS 14.6
FEET AND RISING. A CREST OF 17 TO 18 FEET IS FORECAST AT NORTHSIDE
DRIVE LATE THIS AFTERNOON. IF HEAVY RAINS CONTINUE THIS CREST MAY
BE HIGHER. FLOOD STAGE ON PEACHTREE CREEK IS 17 FEET AND THIS CREST
WILL CAUSE FLOODING ALONG WOODWARD WAY AND IN THE LOWER AREAS OF THE
BOBBY JONES GOLF COURSE. SOME FLASH FLOODING IS ALSO LIKELY ALONG LOW
AREAS NEAR NANCY CREEK IN ATLANTA AND DEKALB COUNTY AS WELL.
 
 
MOST LDEATHS IN FLASH FLOODING OCCUR IN AUTOMOBILES.  DO NOT
ATTEMPT TO CROSS BRIDGES...DIPS...OR LOW SPOTS IF WATER COVERS
THE ROADWAY.  NEVER TRY TO CROSS A FLOWING STREAM...EVEN A
SMALL ONE...ON FOOT.
