250 PM CDT FRI AUG 5 1988

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED A FLASH FLOOD WARNING
EFFECTIVE UNTIL 645 PM CDT FOR PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING COUNTY...

IN SOUTHCENTRAL TEXAS...VAL VERDE.

AT 245 PM CDT THUNDERSTORMS WITH HEAVY RAIN...FREQUENT DANGEROUS
LIGHTNING AND WINDS GUSTING TO 35 MPH WERE OBSERVED AT THE DEL RIO
INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT. RADAR ALSO INDICATED THUNDERSTORMS SCATTERED
THROUGHOUT VAL VERDE COUNTY. THESE STORMS WERE MOVING TO THE NORTHWEST
AT 10 MPH.

SEVERAL LOW LYING AREAS AND LOW WATER CROSSINGS IN DEL RIO ARE FLOODED
NOW. MOTORISTS SHOULD USE EXTREME CAUTION. CAMPERS AND CANOISTS ALONG
THE DRY DEVILS RIVER SHOULD MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND NOW. DRAWS IN
NORTHERN VAL VERDE COUNTY ARE STILL RUNNUNG FROM PREVIOUS RAINS.

A FLASH FLOOD WARNING MEANS THAT FLOODING IS OCCURRING OR IS IMMINENT.
MOST FLASH FLOOD DEATHS OCCUR IN AUTOMOBILES. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CROSS
BRIDGES..DIPS..OR LOW SPOTS IF WATER COVERS THE ROADWAY. NEVER TRY TO
CROSS A FLOWING STREAM..EVEN A SMALL ONE..ON FOOT. TO ESCAPE RISING
WATER MOVE UP TO HIGHER GROUND.
