FLASH FLOOD WARNING
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DEL RIO TX
119 PM CST THU FEB 5 1987

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS EXTENDED THE FLASH FLOOD WARNING
AND IS EFFECTIVE UNTIL 500 PM FOR PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING COUNTY IN

SOUTHCENTRAL TEXAS...VAL VERDE.

AT 105 PM CST THE DEVILS RIVER WAS AGAIN RISING AND WAS AT 8.4 FEET
AT BAKERS CROSSING 12 SOUTH OF JUNO. THE NORMAL FLOW OF WATER AT
BAKERS CROSSING IS 3.4 FEET AND THE BRIDGE HEIGHT IS 7.4 FEET.
HIGHWAY 163 NORTH OF COMSTOCK REMAINS CLOSED.

HEAVY RAIN ACCOMPANIED BY STRONG GUSTY WINDS HAD BEEN FALLING NEAR
SANDERSON IN TERRELL COUNTY. THE PRECIPITATION WAS MOVING EAST AT 15
MPH.


MOTORISTS TRAVELING IN NORTHERN VAL VERDE COUNTY AND ON HIGHWAY
163 NORTH OF COMSTOCK SHOULD NOT ATTEMPT TO CROSS LOW WATER
CROSSINGS. RANCHERS THAT HAVE LIVESTOCK ALONG THE DEVILS RIVER SHOULD
MOVE THEIR LIVESTOCK TO A PLACE OF SAFETY. CAMPERS AND FISHERMEN
SHOULD ALSO MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND.

A FLASH FLOOD WARNING MEANS THAT FLOODING IS OCCURRING OR IS
IMMINENT. MOST FLASH FLOOD DEATHS OCCUR IN AUTOMOBILES. DO NOT
ATTEMPT TO CROSS BRIDGES..DIPS..OR LOW SPOTS IF WATER COVERS THE
ROADWAY. NEVER TRY TO CROSS A FLOWING STREAM..EVEN A SMALL ONE..ON
FOOT. TO ESCAPE RISING WATER MOVE UP TO HIGHER GROUND.
